Govt to accept court verdict on Davis: Gilani

Govt to accept court verdict on Davis: Gilani ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilanisaid on Wednesday said that the government's stance was very much clear on the US national Raymond Davis case and any decision by the court or the heirs of the deceased would be acceptable to it.

Speaking at National Seerat Conference here, he said that Davis' matter was before the court where proofs would have to be presented and it would decide the case.

"The government has never asked the Foreign Ministry to write any summery on the issue and the Foreign Secretary has spelt out the government position and it is now for courts to interpret these things," the Prime Minister told Ulema and Mashaikh, who gathered here from across the country.

The Prime Minister said, "Had the government bowed before any pressure the US President Obama would have no need to come on television asking for Davis' immunity."

He said that a murder had been committed and the Ulema should tell the solution. Either the heirs should give a pardon or ask about 'Qisas' or the court should decide, he said and added, "We don't have any role." "We are facing difficult decisions.

There is a political price. If we take it then the people do not support and if we don't do it the world does not support," the Prime Minister said.

"We are just caught between the devil and the deep sea. This needs wisdom. We will do whatever is in the interest of the country and the nation," Gilani said.

The Prime Minister said that the government would not do any thing that harms national interest, adding, "Davis also has a lawyer, he will present his case and then the court will decide whether he has immunity or not".

The government will accept the court decision, he said, adding, "We will accept the heirs decision which is according to Qura'n and Islam".(APP)
