Happy 40th Birthday to “One Day Cricket”

It was 5th January 1971, when the very first ODI was played between Australia and England at MCG ( Melbourne Cricket Ground – shown in the picture above). Now, a total of more than 3000 ODI matches have been played.

ICC on 5th January 2011 has announced all time best ODI team in which only 1 Pakistan Player is included, and he is none other than the legend Wasim Akram. Three Indians, Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar and Sunil Gavaskar are also included in the best ODI team.
A.Gilchrist has been declared as the best ODI wicketkeeper of all time. The ODI match between South Africa and Australia has been declared as the best ODI match in which South Africa beat Australia by one-wicket at Johannesburg on 12 March 2006.
India have played most number of ODI’s (more than 750) than any other team and about 20 different nations have played this (ODI) format of the game. There have been 1,103 centuries, 6,299 fifties and 4,481 ducks scored.
Sachin Tendulkar of India holds record of the most 100s and 50s in One Day International. He also has the most runs in One Day International and is the only male player to score a double century in a One Day International, which he achieved on 24 February, 2010.
Many records have been made in these 40 years and ODI cricket is becoming more and more interesting. Let’s hope that it will further improve in the coming days and people will get more entertainment out of this format.
