Kashmiri organisation demands ban on Bigg Boss

A Non-Governmental Organisation demanded a ban on the hit reality TV show Bigg Boss in the state saying that the programme was "obscene" and not in sync with the cultural ethos of Jammu and Kashmir.

"The content of Bigg Boss aired on an entertainment channel at prime time is mostly obscene and not fit for family viewing," General Secretary of Valley Citizens Council (VCC) Imdad Saqi told PTI.

"There is too much physical proximity between the participants and frequent use of bad language in the show," said Saqi about the show hosted by Bollywood superstar Salman Khan.

He expressed surprise that the state authorities wasted no time in banning informative channels like Press TV and Geo TV, Iranian and Pakistani news channels respectively, but had turned "deaf, blind and dumb" to this "cultural onslaught".

Saqi said there was a need to monitor the other popular entertainment channels as well.

"Expletives are used in some serials as if that was the civilised way to interact in a family," he said.
