Transporters increase fares in wake of Eid-ul-Fitr

The passengers travelling to their hometowns are perturbed over increasing fares of local transport in wake of upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr.
Most of the people on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr are also facing shortage of transport vehicles.
They are complaining against overcharging by transporters more than two times against normal fares, the inter-city buses and vans also shown extraordinary surge in fares as the passengers want to reach their hometowns before Eid.
This situation is resulting into exchange of hot words between transporters and commuters as travellers are not ready to accept fare increase by the transporters at their own.
These practices are common on routes like Pirwadhai and Karachi company bus stands.
They keep fares high during eid and any other special days. They also crammed passengers inside and on top of their vehicles. The seats of these vans and buses are uncomfortable.
A commuter Ali Zain said that commuters were facing problems while using public transport. Meanwhile speeding buses and vans pose hazards to pedestrians particularly the
old and children as they try to cross the road.
Similarly, the female commuters are also facing the same situation due to inadequate space allotted for the females’ passengers.
Sana Ali, a commuter said the attitude of the van conductors was always harsh. The most serious problem is that there is no schedule for public transport, said Ali.
Commuters demanded that the concerned authorities should take strict action against those over-charging from passengers during the last two week of eid.
