Thousands protest against Aafia’s sentence

KARACHI (24th September 2010 (16 minutes ago))

Thousands of political and social activists and students staged protest in many cities against the sentence of Doctor Aafia Siddiqui on Friday.
In Peshawar, dozens of people took to the streets, burning tires and shouting and slogans “Down with America!”. Some hit a portrait of U.S. President Barack Obama with their shoes.
“This sentence is a slap in the face of our rulers who have pledged and
made promises to bring back Aafia,” Siddiqui’s sister Fauzia said at her home in Karachi.
Demonstrators in Karachi, Lahore and other cities staged protest and condemned the sentence of Dr. Aafia. Thousands of protesters took to the streets of Islamabad.
Dr. Aafia Siddiqui was Thursday sentenced by a U.S. judge to 86 years imprisonment for allegedly shooting at US agents in Afghanistan.
