Record run boosts Aisam’s doubles, team rankings

KARACHI: Following a two-week historic run at the US Open, Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi has broken into the top-25 of ATP’s doubles rankings.
Meanwhile, Qureshi and his doubles partner Rohan Bopanna of India jumped nine places to number six in the team table, according to the latest ATP rankings released on Monday.
Qureshi, who was ranked number 35 before the tournament started, entered the men’s and mixed doubles final at the last grand slam of the year.
In the mixed doubles final, Qureshi and Kveta Peschke of the
Czech Republic lost to tournament top seeds Liezel Huber and Bob Bryan 6-4, 6-4.
While in the men’s doubles final, the ‘Indo-Pak Express’ fought hard against top-seeds and world number one pair of Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan but lost 7-6, 7-6.
This, 23, is a career-high ranking for Qureshi, who is already Pakistan’s most successful tennis player.
The 30-year-old will return to Pakistan on Wednesday, September 15, after a record run in New York.
